Based on comprehensive automatic process control in MeiShan Concentration Plant, Shanghai BaoShan Steel Group, this paper presents ball mill' s automation and optimization strategy and computer control system in metallurgical industry field.The main purpose of mill & grinding system is to keep particle size stable and to improve the throughout. According to the control object and the performance of the grinding system, this paper gives the control scheme after analyzing the system model. Of all the subsystems, the particle size control and the mineral feeding control are discussed in detail. The fuzzy strategy and the optimization strategy are used respectively, which are proved very effective.The grinding optimization objective can be considered as a problem of economic optimization with constraints. Self-optimizing method of step-searching is adopted, which keeps the system run economically and optimally.Three-level scheme of the grinding control system is presented, including control level, supervisory control level and production management level, which is open, reliable and economical.
