Air pollution has become more and more serious in the recent years. How to usethe new technology to do the air quality management in the urban area is the mostimportant task for us.Air environmental information system has become a new field in the airpollution. In this paper, aimed at the designing, modeling, calculating, integration, andrealization of the air environmental information system, the author analyzes the datastructure of geography information system(GIS), and the data of the simulation of theair quality, which establishes the foundation of the integration of GIS and the airmodels. The principles of the computer software engineering, managementinformation system theory, geography information system theory, and environmentalscience are used as the guidance. The integration of GIS and air models is realizedthrough the Mapobjects and the Visual basic 6.0 as an interface development tool. Theair environmental information system is built, which helps the management of the airquality.During the designing of the system, metadata is applied in the air environmentalinformation system. Based on the characteristics of the integration of GIS and the airmodels, the model metadata is applied in the system. The application of the metadatawill help the users to understand the data and the models, which are used in thesystem, further. Meanwhile, the air environmental information system will beinherited much better.
