With the development of society and improving of people's life, people concern their life quality more and more. Meanwhile, advances in construction technology have caused a much greater using of synthetic building materials. Besides, Chemical production is used in insulated materials, indoor decorative materials, dope, and all kinds of paints on furniture, walls and floors. These decorative materials can release more than 300 kinds of different volatile organic compounds (VOCs). When they enter into our houses, some poisonous VOCs will cause various diseases which bring huge physical and psychic loss to users. Having struggled with the pollutions of "Lampblack"and "Photochemistry fog", human being is entering the 3rd period of pollutions —indoor pollution. Conformance with people's requests of health, green and eco-life style, plants application have been received more and more concern. In present paper, several indoor plants-Sansevieria trifasciata 'Laurentii', Syngonium podophyllum 'Gold Allusion', Scindapsus aureus, Chlorophytum comosum, Chlorophytum comosum 'Vittatum'were measured and evaluated with their ability of removal of benzene and formaldehyde, through being putting into a sealed chamber with contaminated air. Through comparison and studies of the physiological hardness and cell ultra structure of the leaves of detected plants growing in contaminated air for different periods of time, we found some plants with high ability of absorbing benzene and formaldehyde separately, and with high resistance to these poisonous air as well. Moreover, we studied the applications of potted plants in houses decoration and greening. Some results had been gained as the following: 1. Syngonium podophyllum 'Gold Allusion'is the best one of the selected plants in our research, which is with high ability of absorbing benzene and formaldehyde. Next ones are Scindapsus aureus and Sansevieria trifasciata 'Laurentii', Chlorophytum comosum is the worst. 2. The changes of chlorophyll contents, the activity of peroxides, MDA contents in leaves of these ordinary potted ornamental plants polluted by benzene are measured with spectrophotometry. The results showed that chlorophyll contents in leaves of plants decrease, the activity of peroxides and MDA increase remarkably. The biggest change is Chlorophytum comosum, the second is Sansevieria trifasciata 'Laurentii', and the third is Scindapsus aureus, the smallest is Syngonium podophyllum 'Gold Allusion'. 3. The structure of ultra structural in leaves of these ordinary potted ornamental plants polluted by benzene are also measured. Ultra structural observation showed that the structure of ultra structural was destroyed, the starch grains became larger with the fumigation prolonging, while the lipid globule became smaller. The degree of ultra structural's structure being destroyed of Chlorophytum comosum is the biggest, the following sequence is Sansevieria trifasciata 'Laurentii', cindapsus aureus, Syngonium podophyllum 'Gold Allusion'. 4. According to general analysis, the sequence of the ability of decontamination was that Syngonium podophyllum 'Gold Allusion'> cindapsus aureus > Sansevieria trifasciata 'Laurentii'>Chlorophytum comosum. 5. In potted plants, besides foliage absorb harmful gases, its'soils and microorganism in soils also can absorb some harmful gases. Soil+ Plant+ Case make up of a purify set which can absorb indoor formaldehyde. And it is economical and no side-effect. It's the best green purify-air-set at present. 6. Plants had a selective ability to different gases. Chlorophytum comosum can absorb formaldehyde largely, but can't to benzene...
