At present, the existing model for virtual milling simulation used mostly is discrete triangle facet model, by modifying the triangle facet value at the Z axis of the up-surface to implement the milling simulation. Using this method to implement milling simulation has two deficiencies, firstly, difficult to get the smoothness of the workpiece after milling, secondly, hard to achieve milling simulation for cavity-blank.For present status of study on virtual milling, this thesis proposed the storage and update algorithms of the model, analyzed the reason of not smooth of the Workpiece, proposed Smoothness Algorithm, researched on virtual milling for cavity-blank, and analyzed and discussed the key technologies of real-time virtual milling in detail.This thesis discussed differently using programming and software two methods to make model, used structure array to store the model information, and gave the detailed information update algorithm after milling.Pointed out when using the common simulation method, the reason of forming the workpiece not smooth was that triangle facets were cut partly, and used the Approaching the Basic Curve with Straight Lines Principle, proposed using Vertices Moving Algorithm to move vertices to form the projection boundaries formed by milling tool projected on the workpiece, approaching the path boundaries to get the smoothness after millingIt's different that the workpiece with cavity-blank or not, when milling, whether the milling tool milled the cavity or not is needed to judge, so this thesis used the vector dot product of out-vector of the milling tool centre and the out-vector of the triangle facet to judge the milling tool milled the cavity surface or not.When milling in real-time, the triangle facets to cut will be deleted, and new triangle facet of cavity parts formed by milling on the workpiece surface will be constructed, at last, the new constructed parts and the workpiece will be merged to one model.This thesis validated all the above-mentioned algorithms, and the experiments proved that the storage and update of model information data algorithm, smoothness algorithm, judgment of milling tool milling the cavity algorithm, triangle facets reconstruction and new parts merging algorithm, are feasible, and got the simulation effect.At last this thesis concluded the work of all the paper and pointed out the deficiencies and the development orientation.
