Quench oil system occupies a decisive position in long-term and higher load operation and energy reduction in ethylene plant. Nowadays the designs of viscosity reducing system in many domestic ethylene plants are not proper, for example that production capacity can not reach the design value, the viscosity of quench oil is high, the temperature of gasoline fractionator top is high, the temperature of fractionator caldron is low, quench oil viscosity reducing system is unsteadily, heat recovery is inefficient and quench water is often emulsifiable. Based on analysis of the ingredients of gasoline fractions and fouling in packed section, it shows that fouling in packed section is the polymerization of aromatics and indene which are active. By investigating factors cauing quench oil viscosifying, it comes to the conclusion that quench oil is a colloidal system whose dispersed phase is asphaltene, peptizer is gum and dispersion mediums are aromatics and alkanes. It's also discussed that the mechanism of quench oil viscosifying, fouling and coking. Under the guidance of those mechanisms, the industrial experiment that adds antioxidants and inhibitors in quench oil to alleviate fouling in the gasoline fractionator in Yansan ethylene plant has obstained satisfactory results. Meanwhile, the commercial application of fuel oil and gas oil stripper in gasoline separation system has been investigated in detail.
