The quench unit is the one of most important roles in the pre fractionationprocedure of ethylene cracking gas, it’s mainly to separate the recombination fractionsfrom the cracking gas, including pyrolysis gasoline and fuel oil, and maximize theheat recovery of pyrolysis gas carried. However, because of the influence of manyfactors, the quench unit often becomes the bottleneck of ethylene production capacityand long period operation of the ethylene plant. At present, most prevalent issues existin ethylene plant, including the unreasonable design of quench oil system, quench oilviscosity control unstable, top and bottom temperature deviate from the designedvalue and low heat recovery efficiency. Combined the Dushanzi quench unit actualsituation, the deep study was carried out concerning the bottlenecks of quench oilsystem.In the basis of discussion about quench oil parameter control, the paper mainlyanalysed the quench oil viscosity control mechanism and several effective viscosityreducing methods.At the same time, it discussed the viscosity reducing agentapplication and evaluation in the Dushanzi ethylene quench unit. In addition, thefouling control in the quench tower was analyzed in the paper and gave some feasiblesuggestions.The research findings have some reference value for the quench unit, includingthe optimization of quench unit operation, viscosity control, heat recovery,and so on,also it has practical guideline for solving the common problems occurred in thequench unit.
