Techniques of CAE, such as finite element analysis and structural optimization , have great significance in shorting the product development period, improving the product quality, reducing the manufacturing cost and strengthening the enterprise competitive power. In this paper, by the use of the finite element analysis software ANSYS, statistic and mode analysis of the open press frame are carried out, and its structure is optimized in order to lighten its weigh under the condition of ensuring the safe production. The research results on the press structure optimization may improve the design level of press and provide reliable technical guidance for its practical production.The structure and stress feature of the open press frame are analyzed, its geometric model ois established based on several simplified principles, tetrahedron solid element in the finite element software is introduced, the load distribution on the crankshaft bearing holes and the working table is studied, and the finite element model of the press frame is established.The static feature of the finite element model is calculated. The stress distribution and the displacements and deformation of the press frame under the working state are analyzed, its weak positions are determined, and its angular deformation is calculated in order to verify the angular stiffness. The mode analysis of the finite element model is made, the first five modes of the frame are calculated. By comparing the basic frequency with the working frequency, it is to insure that the sympathetic vibration during the working process of the press will not occur.Based on static and mode analyzing results, the program of optimum design of the press frame is presented. Selecting geometry size and the shell thickness of the frame parts as the design variables, taking the frame volume as the objective function, and adopting zero rank method, the press frame structure optimization is developed to reduce its weight and the manufacturing cost with the maximum limition.
