The application of finite element analysis and structural optimization is significant in shortening the period of production development, increasing the quality of production, reducing the cost of manufacture and improving the enterprise competitive ability. Static and dynamic characteristics of finite element analysis for the frame of open-back press are researched in this present dissertation using finite element analysis software COSMOS/Works, and some optimal designs of press frame structure have been recommended based on the results of analysis. The achievements in structural analysis of the frame of the metal forming machine and common methods of structural analysis are introduced in detail, and the problem and shortage are pointed out.The loads of frame of press that used in analysis are determined by the fully analytical press characteristics of structure and load. The load distribution and magnitude in the crank hole are calculated by way of the simulative loading. 3D-FEM model of the frame using tetrahedron solid element is built up and calculated. The weakness of the frame is found by analyzing the distribution of stress and deformation. Angular deformation is calculated by material mechanics and FEM respectively, and the results are approximately equal.Based on the analysis and affection of the stress and deformation distribution of the frame, a special program for calculating the danger section in frame throat is developed. Some optimal static optimization projects are brought forward and selected on the base of conclusion that has been gained. The concept of angular deformation compensation is put forward, and it helps to improve the precision of the press largely. In modal analysis, the first ten modalities of the frame are calculated. A better dynamic characteristic structure is obtained by further selection on the static optimum design.
