Replacing point-to-point copper wires with network is an important feature of IEC61850 substation, network technology become fundamental infrastructure for data sharing between IDEs and equipment interoperating. Through the IEC61850 substation construction and practice for years at home and abroad, Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) has been exercised in many IEC61850 substation practices, for circuit beaker tripping, logic locking, synchronism checking, etc. Couples of GOOSE based new applications, like distributed bus relay, distributed BATS, distributed Load schedule, IEC61850 substation remote vision system, have emerged in engineering practices. The reliability of process bus network and data communications between IDEs has became critical factor to achieve reliable operation of IEC61850 substation. Paper proposes a design of a GOOSE black box to record GOOSE packet on process bus, it's main focus is to explore potential record mechanisms in different application., however real-time analysis of GOOSE packet and identify of abnormal GOOSE communication behavior are entirely missing.GOOSE has been widely adopted in IEC61850 substation projects, but efficient tools to analysis and monitor the GOOSE communication in real-time haven't been fulfilled. This paper proposes the methods and procedures to analysis GOOSE packet in real-time, defines normal and abnormal behaviors in GOOSE communication, on top of the outcomes from real-time analysis, a GOOSE communication model has been build, which becomes the base of GOOSE communication surveillance system, a graphic human interface is also provided. The paper presents such a case that this system has been deployed and achieved the expected results. GOOSE real-time analysis and surveillance system can detect abnormal GOOSE communication behaviors, trace down potential defects, thus improve the operation reliability of IEC61850 substation.
