Protection And Inheritance Of The Spirit Of Place In Urban Historic District

Historic District reflects the city pattern style in specific period of time. It is the a great treasure influenced and evolved by the multiple factors in the long term development of city, including the natural environment, economic level, residents structure, geographical cultural environment, etc, which is of great importance to the future of the city development.Based on the optimistic development of Chinese socio-economic and the trend of globalization, Chinese urban construction is currently involved with the problem of traditional culture lost.In this paper, it aims to focus on the study of the nature of the historic district’s " spirit of place ", with the illustration of relevant domestic and international research cases. Through investigation and analysis of two typical protected historic districts in China, we conducted in-depth thinking and research on the protection of the "spirit of place" and its inheritance. The objective is to explore the Chinese-Western cultures impacts and the source trait of the lost of traditional culture in the progress of urban construction. Finally, the rational ideas for future improvement and protection for the historic district in cities are also proposed.
