From the point of view of architecture, abandoned industrial areas are industrial class historical sites, belong to urban industry settlement. The concept of industry settlement is from the edge of village of traditional settlement. Excellent traditional houses have been able to reproduce from generation to generation, because the settlement contains the morphological characteristics of space, and cultural factors.This paper analyzes the method of traditional settlement space to find the traditional residential elements, and the attractive features to applied to the edge of contemporary urban industry settlement, After determining the characteristics of edge elements of settlement and construction principles, in updating of urban industrial areas, through the example of the Shougang industrial area renovation, explaining design methods of industry settlement space on the Shougang industrial civilization axis. This paper introduces a large number of comparative analysis of actual cases on the course of studying, to illustrate form factors of space in the process of industrial renewal of industry settlement, and how these factors constitute a network. In the updating process, industrial historical context, active life and cultural characteristics need to be integrated, through a combination of various forms of elements to design settlement space that is often used, while strengthening the emotional connection with employees, and passing spiritual of places and historical context.
