Inheritance & Regeneration-the Research Of Waterfront Renewal Design For The Hangzhou Part Of The Grand Canal

As the mother river, Hangzhou Grand Canal witnessed the development and changes of city, and as a developed city in the eastern coast, Hangzhou has entered the stage of accelerated urbanization. With the recognition of development and construction of waterfront and under the pace of canal inscription, protecting the canal heritage and shaping the distinctive urban waterfront has become a top priority.This topic pay more attention to the "Inheritance" and "renewable", in order to describe the attitude we should reserve to the canal history culture, regional culture. We should hold retention and succession on inheritance of the canal water development, not blindly tearing down of the reconstruction. "Regeneration" is stressed in the renovation of the Canal waterfront, so that we can reserve their local characteristics in the context of the new era.In this understanding, this thesis put the Canal waterfront as a major study object, from the perspective of urban renewal and design to analyze. It using the methods of system analysis combined with the research methods of relevant planning theories to research. It analyze the main problems in Canal waterfront space, and study the foreign successful waterfront regeneration experience. At last it presents the regeneration targets and principles to the canal waterfront, and proposes the design strategies of inheritance and succession to the canal culture and regional culture.The dissertation is composed of six chapters:Chapter 1 introduces the background,basic theories,object and range,purposes and frame about the dissertation's study.Chapter 2 describes the developing course of the Canal Waterfront firstly, and then brief place and problem demanding prompt solution of having analysed in our county having the typical practice, summary to have benefit among them. Second section of the situation having analysed and the characteristic that development and design in Canal Waterfront, in order to obtain reference and inspiration. Chapter 3 are in charge of refreshed necessity mainly from Canal Waterfront, unique composition advantage waits for a problem to start,analysis the principles of the Canal Waterfront regeneration design.Chapter 4 are the thesis research priority, sum up out design tactics and method that Canal Waterfront renews basis that front chapter analysis discusses, Mainly from three aspects: divided into the canal section of the natural ecology, history, culture and public events section of paragraph from functional strategy, from space, architectural form and landscape create a positive external space and from the regional, location and analysis of mining on traditional geographic characteristics and historical context and creating features of Waterfront.Chapter 5 from the design practice of Canal Waterfront regeneration, the paper further discusses and applies the application of the theory and methods.At last summarize the thesis, the future design direction of the Canal Waterfront regeneration.
