In today's perceptual consumption era, the emotional part is gradually becoming a new focus of both product design and market competition.In industrial design, suitble material collocating is one of the most effective way to improve the emotional value of products. But for a long time, due to the lack of effective experimental and theoretical support, designers have to rely on their own experience, intuition and inspiration to carry out the collocating design, which has made it difficult to meet the emotional needs of users accurately and efficiently.The present research about perceptual image of product has mostly focused on shapes or colors,or one specific kind of material. However, products are usually composed by different part of shapes or components, often two or more different materials get involved in material collocating design. So,it has been a really important task for designers to study the consumer's perceptual image and their preference about material collocating.This research is trying to study the consumer's perceptual image of different material collocating,and vacuum cup is selected as experimental sample.The whole experiment is based on the basic theory and technology of Kansei Engineering, and consumers are invited to evaluate 16 samples through visual perceptual.Then,principal component analysis, image scale method and cluster analysis are used to explore the relationship between material collocating and perceptual image,so as to provide reference to designers for material collocating design.the main results of this research are:1. The result of principle component analysis show that the consumer's perceptual image about vacuum cup's material collocating could be described briefly in three dimensions, "personality", "taste" and "simple".2. The result of image scale analysis show that each sample has got a space plot of perceptual image in three dimensions, and with the further cluster analysis,samples are divided into groups by their similarity in perceptual image,so,features of each group or sample are generalized.3. Explore the reason that cause difference and similarity between image of samples from their group or space features.4. Find out the advantages and disadvantages of main materials in the three dimensions, and summarize the frames of material collocating for cup design.
