The purpose and importance of undertaking the research of booster pellet structure, and the developing in the domestic and overseas of the technique are reviewed. Then the characteristic and the insensitive mechanism of the insensitive main-charge are analyzed. It is the conclusion that the difficulty of hotspot spreading during shock initiating is one of the reasons resulting in the larger critical diameter of the insensitive main- charge. On the base of analyzing the influencing factors of booster pellet on the initiating capability, the structure of hemispherical booster pellet is put forward to reliably initiate the insensitive main-charge with large critical diameter. The initiating characteristics of the hemispherical booster pellet and the general cylindrical booster pellet are contrasted theoretically. Meanwhile, the both initiating capabilities are contrasted and testified experimentally. The experimental results show the hemispherical booster pellet has a stronger initiating capability than the cylindrical booster pellet under the same conditions, and the former can decrease explosive quantity approximately 33% than the latter under achieving the same initiating effect conditions. In addition, the multimedia demonstrating software about the technique is developed.
