Drinking water plays an important role in people抯 everyday life. In this paper, the development of water quality and standards for drinking water used home and abroad was briefly introduced, and the standards for good quality drinking water has been suggested. The emphasis was placed on the advantages and disadvantages of the purification processes and disinfection methods applied in potable water treatment. Based on the productive tests of good quality drinking water using spring water and tap water as source water respectively, a more applicable and economical purification process, which consists of GAC (Granular Active Carbon) adsorption, reverse osmosis, and ozone disinfection, has been suggested. These tests indicated this process effective in removing turbidity, color, MJI, total bacteria, and so on. Ozone can not only raise PH of the effluent, but also keep it meeting the requirement of the ~Water Quality Standards for Fine Drinking Water?(CJ94-1999). In addition, the cycle discharge was attempted to determine and the problems emerging in the tests was discussed. This study supplies strong foundation for practice and can direct the operation of good quality drinking water treatment.
