Now, varieties of fans are widely being used in different industrial fields. However, a great number of traditional design methods of fan are lower efficiency and time consuming, meanwhile, the designs do not make adequate use of comparability of fans due to lack of modern means of information integration.Based on the analysis of the shortcomings of traditional designs and fan comparability characteristics, the thesis fully studies technical paths of fan parametric design in combination with modern database software techniques, and exploits a complete interactive program system to operate the parametric design for series of centrifugal fans under the support of systematic software of Visual Basic(VB), ACCESS and CATIA. The major research work in the thesis is as follows:1.) analyzes and summarizes comparability theory and comparability design of fans;2.) creates the overall logic structure of the parametric design interactive program system and implements interface programming through VB tools;3.) builds fan components and parts databases based on ACCESS system;4.) analyzes CATIA's function, then discusses the merits and feasibility of utilizing CATIA system on parametric design.5.) builds the 3D case-based modal library and fan's components and parts sizes library (EXCEL), which is based on CATIA system and case-based design theory.6.) develops man-computer interactive interface of the system using Visual Basic.7.) researches the feasibility of parametric design based on 3D modals, though at present, the research on parametric design is one of focus in the researches on CAD system, but current parametric design is mostly basedon the 2D modals, the research on 3D modals is barely of starting.8.) connects and integrates all libraries and databases based on correlative parametric design theory and using VB's powerful function and correlative technique.9.) develops database system for fan parametric design.The system basically realizes the parametric design of Fan's components and parts; accelerates the automatism of fan design, which is convenient for efficient use of all kinds of information resource about the former product and for reducing the wastage of information resource, and for shortening the cycle of fan-design. The system has a promising future in improving the capability of fan and quality of design.
