, In this paper, the author conducts in-depth research for several important problems on trip generation in Xi'an. The contents of the paper contain: the selection of research method, the study of trip generation rate, the modification of location impact in applying trip generation rate and its elicitation to urban traffic. Based on systemic discussion on the character of today trip generation models and use experience of advanced countries, the paper considers that an study on establishing and raising the method of trip generate rate based on land use is still important work and practical selection of trip generate in our country, and describes particularly its flow chart and key points. The paper then puts forward the traffic classing method of urban land in China from the point of view of the interrelationship of urban land use and traffic, founds an trip generation rate method fit for Chinese cities, and applies it to the traffic forecasting of Xi'an. Besides, the paper also proposes the conception named location superiority degree and how to quantify it, and discusses how to modify the location impact in applying trip generation rate on the condition that the errors is very small of other stages in four-step procedure. The paper finally inquires into the reasonable structure of passenger transport mode in Xi'an from the analysis of the influence factor of traffic model and the objective condition of Xi'an, researches the long-range development direction of city space from the two aspect of realizing the multi-center by promoting the transit-oriented development and the shift of partial administration merit of center area.
