The movement of reactive power influences the power factor and power supply quality. The SVC reactive power dynamic compensation units the text mentioned is a sort of typical compensation units on the spot, it's applications pass 30's development, it becomes full-blown reactive power dynamic compensation technology and applies far-ranging all over the world.Cycloconverter frequency conversion and speed adjustable system for the rolling mill is a typical impactive load. Its operation brings the power system reactive power impact and a lot of harmonics. As a result, the fluctuation of the system voltage, distortion rate of the voltage wave and other parameters are out of the limitation of the national standard. This seriously threatens the safe operation of the power supply system.In this article, we make an analysis of the harmonic influence of the cycloconverter frequency conversion control system to the power system; study the reactive power and the harmonic change during the rolling; make a theoretical calculation on the power factor, voltage fluctuation, distortion of the voltage wave and other parameters of the power supply system; and make a detailed analysis for the calculated data and the tested data. Finally the conclusion is: A set of reactive power dynamic compensation unit must be installed on the busbar of the power system to reduce or eliminate the harmful effect.In this article, we deeply study the philosophy of all kinds of reactive power dynamic compensation units and the design philosophy of filters. Based on that, we bring forward the systematic solution of adopting TCR reactive power dynamic compensation unit. In this article, we give the design parameters and the design solution to the control system of TCR reactive power dynamic compensation unit. Considering that the cycloconverter converter generate side frequency and a lot of other harmonics besides 5th, 7th, 11th and 13th harmonics, we make the solution selection for the filter unit, confirm the type of the filter and make the engineering calculation to the parameters of the filters. TCR+FC type of SVC can adjust the capacitance impedance and inductance impedance of three phasic power supply to compensate rolling mill systemic imbalance through adopting separate phasic control, so it reduces the wastage of 35KV power supply net.
