Virtual Clay Modeling, VCM, is a new modeling method for productions' shape and can be used to the fields of geometry design with quite higher request, such as automobile, aircraft and so on. VCM is still under perfecting in the Key Laboratory of Contemporary Design and Integrated Manufacturing Technology, Ministry of Education, Northwestern Polytechnical University. VCM introduces the newest achievements of 3D modeling technologies and virtual-reality technologies in recent years, which is presented with 3D compressed Voxel data model inner computer.In order to get the vivid immersion and interaction for users and according to the features of compressed Voxel model, VCM must have the ability of modeling dynamic displaying to effect the user's revisions. Here, we present a new optimal algorithm for surface extraction and it can effectively accelerate model's imaginations. Comparing with the traditional marching-cubes algorithm, this algorithm not only can stride over the outer vacant voxels of the object but also can stride over the full inner voxels of the object. With this method, we can get a satisfied surface extraction speed.VCM, as a kind of CAD software, should have the expansibility and the data exchange ability with other existing commercial CAD software. Because of the STL file format support for most CAD software, we developed a STL output interface and integrated it with VCM to realize the data exchange with them.
