Entering the 21th century, Chinese power system is quickly developing towards higher parameter, greater capacity and ultra high voltage, interconnection of 500kv power networks has now been built up and became main frame of our power grid. Along with the progressive deepening of the reformation and the constant development of Shandong power system, we still have to deal with many problems on the construction and management of 500kv power networks. This article discussed in-depth on the design and realization of 500kv unmanned comprehensive automation substation.At the base of summarizing manage status the Shandong 500kV substations, this paper analyzes the feasibility and prerequisite of 500kv unmanned comprehensive automation substation. It is pointed out that the trend for unmanned substation automation is the integrated automation system in the near future along with the development of computer communication and network technologies. The coordinated automation system for unmanned substation is introduced, includes host control station and control substation . The individual control unit, relay protection and monitors are integrated in the system that has function of condition monitoring for equipment besides control and protection. The basic structure of the system and its operation experience are also introduced. The technologies involved to build the system are analyzed.It's proved that the conditions of Shandong 500kv unmanned comprehensive automation substation have been mature. Its benefits are very marked and deserved popularized.
