Against the background of the new social, economic and cultural situations ofchina, and the development climax of the campus construction of china, thisdissertation makes an overall research on the theory and method of the holistic designof campus, which is achieved by using the theories of urban design, Combined widelywith the theories and the paces of planning, architecture, landscape and campus shapedesign, coming into the theory and methodology frame of the campus holistic adaptive design.The thesis is divided into seven chapters. Chapter one, the introduction, briefly explains the background of choosing the topic, the present state of study, the purpose of study, the methodology of study and its significance. Chapter two focuses on problems which exits between campus building and enviroment design. It explores reasons along with provokes thinkings. Refering to the latest experiences of oversea's campus building, brings up the idea of campus changes and eastablishes designing principles. On the basis of Charles Darwin's adaptation, chapter three studies the new definition of the campu's holistic adaptive design. Brings up the purpose of it, along with the main idea and principle. Charpter four, focues on the idea of unit space's combination, analyzes the way of how to put the idea of the campus holistic daptive design into practice. Based on construction of the campus holistic adaptive design, chapter five studies construction of campu's building, including holistic design, system of communication, space system, enviroment and landscape's system, statement of architecture, etc. Chapter six analyzes typical models of campus design. Chapter seven, the summary, summaries the whole thesis in light of evaluation of the present means of study and ideas on research directions in the future.
