As the electrical power system scale enlarging, the demand for the electrical power system information visualization is also increasing continuously. The information visualization technology for the electrical power system refers to the application of visualization technology to express data indicating electrical power system circulation status in the form of graphs or images. Nicer electric power information visualization technology could demonstrate massive information in images generated by computer, to assist operators to process and analyze complex electrical network data more effectively and to provide them with a more direct-viewing operation platform. The rationale for electric power system visualization originates from such a concept, "a picture is worth a thousand words." In other words, the aim of the visualization is to show the much more information by pictures generated by computer, and to use pictures to reflect data information through their intrinsic relation.Presently, the essential power system graphics—the visualization graphics of grid data and electrical power system circulation status—are analyzed and presented in images by existing visualization graphics software(such as PowerWord,JViewer )after calculation by the emulator software. But most of these graphics are showed in bitmap format by Web. However, the traditional bitmap format in these advanced applications could not be shared and reused even within the same control area, hence not inter-operable.The emergence of electrical information system and the invention of Common Information Model (CIM) and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) provide a new solution to the visualization technology. Based on the integrated network of Hangzhou Power Company, the thesis uses the CIM standard data server as data source to set up a common information exchange platform, and realizes certain functional modules of the electric power data visualization. It studies on the feasibility and actual effects of SVG in electric power data visualization by referring to EMS API and using CIM.
