Along with the integration of equipments in the process level and the bay level, the automated equipments in substations have changed hugely in the facet of the structure,configuration,technology performance and application. On the other hand, with the advancements of computer and network communication technology, especially of the rapid development of SDH network, the adoption of open architecture about automated systems of substations has been greatly facilitated. Furthermore, the adoption of common information model,common communication interfaces and a group of common communication protocol stacks becomes possible.A few key technologies are thoroughly discussed in the process of the substation information integration in this thesis. Some feasible schemes are also proposed.Firstly, the plights of the current substation information integration that appears in the system planning are analyzed. A new information sharing mode and the basic conditions of its implementation are proposed. Furthermore, two frameworks of the substation information integration are designed and some related key technologies are investigated. The IEC 61850 standards are especially studied, with its core parts being deeply analyzed. Base on the above, the development characteristics of IEC 61850 based systems in different periods are summarized.Secondly, a software architecture of IEC 61850 based communication gateway is designed to deal with the reconstructive problems of legacy equipments in the bay level. The related four function modules are respectively analyzed.Thirdly, the communication architecture of IEC 61850 based substation automation systems is proposed, including the network construction of process bus and station bus. And the performance of the communication network is simulated and analyzed with utilizing OPNET.Finally, the researches in the thesis are summarized and the future work is prospected.
