Handheld Spectrum Analyzer, Embedded System Design

Spectrum analyzer is one of the most ordinay instrument applied in microwave measurement. Spectrum analyzer displays the relationship between frequency and power. It is widely used in electronic countermeasures, mobile communication, TV and radio broadcasting. Handheld spectrum analyzer is a kind of mini and portable spectrum analyzer, which is used in field measurement. Handheld spectrum analyzer has high performace/price ratio.Embedded system is a special-purpose computer system whose hardware and software are configurable. Embedded system owns advantages which are suitable for handheld device design, such as high performace, mini size, low power and low price. The thesis focuses in designing a mini, intelligent and network handheld spectrum analyzer which based on embedded system. In the handheld spectrum analyzer, the function of the embedded system is to control the whole instrument, communicate with other instruments and provide graphic user interface. First, the thesis introduces the principles of handheld spectrum analyzer briefly; then, gives a detailed description of the hardware and software design of the embedded system employed in the spectrum analyzer.The embedded system hardware got microcontroller AT91RM9200 as the core. Hardware design work includes minization system design, memory design, external communication interface design and LCD display interface design.The software is based on Linux operating system. Software design includes building of the development environment, transplant of the U-Boot, device driver development and application development. MiniGUI and multi-thread technology are applied in application development.
