Spectrum monitoring device is a common tools, widely used in radio signal test, both military and civil fields. With the high development of the modem science and technology, researchers put forward higher demands on spectrum monitoring device; spectrum monitoring device is expected to represent high- performances in parameters to accomplish a rapid data analysis as well as a real-time return results, and portability to meet the needs in bad working conditions in field operation. Therefore, it is necessary to research and design a handheld spectrum monitoring device, with a good function, which also has a fabulous performance in cost, operability and portability. Based on the Development of Handheld Spectrum Monitor Platform’s project, This thesis puts emphasis on researching how to design and implement the embedded system and driver subsystem in this project’s platform. The goal is to a spectrum monitoring platform with a good portability, a long battery life and a network communication system. The main contents are as below: Firstly, designed an embedded hardware system for the handheld spectrum monitoring device, which included the USB and SD card to realize the core control units, the universal interface design like serial port, the design about how to connect the core control units towards the hardware communicating circuit with DSP as well as the dynamic configuration scheme to FPGA, and a hardware design about battery monitoring units, temperature monitoring units, network communication units, display units, and frequency synthesizer control units. Secondly, designed and analyzed the subsystem driver by handheld spectrum monitoring device, realized the communication of embedded systems and DSP via HPI based on the foundation construction of the subsystem driven by Linux and the monitor about dynamic configuration, temperature, and battery charge monitoring of embedded systems with FPGA, completed a frequency synthesizer control command issued driver design, achieved the migration card DM9000, LCD and other drive subsystem, and accomplished the analysis and test of each module. Finally, achieved the optimization of software platform, and test the system’s function. After analyzing the fragment and startup procedures of Bootloader and Linux,this thesis realized changes and cutting of U-Boot, Linux kernel, and achieved a handheld spectrum monitoring device with high stability, low power consumption and high customization. At last this thesis conducted tests in system level towards this.a handheld spectrum monitoring device. These are the main contents of this thesis. After deep analyzing the embedded system’s hardware and software platform as well as the characteristics of DSP and FPGA, this thesis completed the whole embedded system design for handheld spectrum monitoring device, realized data communications between the embedded system with DSP and FPGA, and accomplished the design about embedded systems, other monitoring and control units. In the end, it provided the hardware and underlying software support for the upper software platform, supply an operational interface, and achieved the embedded system solutions in line with the functional requirements of handheld spectrum monitoring device.
