Clinical Significance Of Parameters Of Prostate Measured By Transabdominal Ultrasonography In Evaluating Bladder Outlet Obstruction

Objective: To explore the parameters of prostate, such as three diameters and intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP), measured by transabdominal ultrasonography in dignosing bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). Methods: 101 cases were collected, We studied the clinical data of 101 BPH patients referred for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) from November 2008 to November 2009. All of them underwent transabdominal ultrasonography to measure the superior-inferior diameter (R1), anterior-posterior diameter (R2), left-right diameter (R3) and IPP. The patients can be divided into intravesical prostatic protrusion group and non-intravesical prostatic protrusion group according to their IPP, While the prostate volume (PV) was calculated. Urodynamic examination was conducted to record the maximum flow rate (Qmax), and detrusor pressure at maximum urinary flow rate (PdetQmax), and AG values were calculated. The patients were divided into obstruction group and non-obstruction group according to their AG values, and the correlationship were analyzed. Results: the R1, R2, R3 and PV were found statistically different between the obstruction and the non-obstruction (P<0.05).The rate of happening the bladder outlet in intravesical prostatic protrusion group was higher than in non-intravesical prostatic protrusion group. Logistic analysis showed that R1 (OR=11.967, P=0.020) and IPP (OR=6.122, P=0.009) were positively correlated with bladder outlet obstruction valued with AG. Conclusion: The Parameters of prostate measured by transabdominal ultrasonography are reliable to diagnose BOO due to BPH.
