This paper analyses the importance and implication of the stylisticfeatures of English news, and conducts a case study which aims to probe into stylereproduction and reconstruction in the translation of English News. English newsstyle, also English journalistic style or English news writing style, is the prose styleused for news reporting in media such as newspapers, radio and television. Itencompasses not only vocabulary and sentence structure, but also the way in whichstories present the information in terms of relative importance, tone, and intendedaudience. English news style has proved of great value in linguistic and stylisticstudies. The paper proceeds from Eugene Nida's theory of functional equivalence. Inlight of the theory, the author attempts to reproduce or reconstruct the stylistic featuresof English news. In the paper, common methods of translation are proposed to strivefor equivalence between the source language and the receptor language of A SpecialReport on Germany. Based on the case study, a conclusion can be drawn that Englishnews style can be reproduced or reconstructed.
