Chinese teaching is on the basis of the Chinese textbook, therefore, the present textbooks is the important component of the new curriculum.All the senior high schools in Zhejiang Province which adopted the Renjiao edition has turned to adopting Jiangsu edition since the new curriculum was carried out in Zhejiang, as a result, the differences the new and old editions have been arising our attentions.This paper focuses on the 41 articles selected from the current Jiangsu editon and the old PEP one in order to find out the differences and similarities between the two editions. Despite the similarities in terms of typicality, times and ethnicity as well as the compiling format in the 41 articles, the differences are quite obvious in terms of text format, notes and assignment composition. The differences are related to the compiling principles, textbook systems and the sources of the contents. In a word, those differences embody the different philosophies of the new and old curriculum, each of which has its advantages. The advantages of the old PEP edition is embodied in the emphasis on basic knowledge, the standardization of language wording and the order of ability training while the new Jiangsu edition has its advantages in humanity, openness and times. Based on the overall analysis on the differences in the same articles, this paper puts forward a number of suggestions on the enforcement of relevance, consistency, exemplification as well as the clarity and operability for the supporting reading exercises. In the meantime, this paper advocates that both teachers and students must focus on the full use of the differences in order to make full use of the old teaching resources and carry out exploration activities.This paper consists of four chapters. Chapter One puts forward questions and gives a general idea on the bibliography. Chapter Two elaborates on the compiling principles, relevant theories and compiling requirements. It also lays a theoretical foundation for the whole paper. Chapter Three consists of four sections which conducts a comparative research statistically on the 41 articles from the general to the details in order to find out the major differences and their causes. Chapter Four analyzes the major differences in the 41 articles and puts forward compiling suggestions and teaching strategies.
