The approval of Lujiang Vocational College in Fujian symbols the beginning of Higher Vocational ecucation in Fujian Province in May,1981. There are all together 11 local, vocational and practical v(?)cational colleges in Fujian till the year of 1985, which are all held by some key cities. With the further development of the Reform and Opening policy and the social economy, higher vocational education is undertaking unprecedented progress, under the circumstances of the rapid development and its popularization of higher education, especially since the end of last century. By using the approaches of material analysis, investigation, comparison and synthesis, this paper analyses the development course of higher vocational education in Fujian Province and makes an overall review of its evolvement by stages. Through comprehensive and logical analysis of those historical materials, it also summarizes different characteristics and problems of different stages of higher vocational education, on basis of re-contemplating of the policy background and social economic background of higher vocational education in Fujian. The characteristic and trend of reform and development of higher vocational education is also discussed from a macroscopic point of view. By focusing on the development of higher vocational education of Fujian Province during the last 30 years, we hope to gain more insight into the regular pattern of its interplay with the reform and opening policy during the last 30 years.
