Through historical analysis, comparative law and statistical method, this thesis mainly focuses on the women's education of FuZhou from 1850 to 1937 to sketch the panorama of the development of women's education of FuZhou from the late Qing Dynasty to the middle Republic of China, which can help us summarize its characteristics and analyze its impact.Firstly, this thesis is to discuss respectively the general facts of the women's education of FuZhou in three historical stages which include the period of Opium Wars to the Westernization Movement; the period of Constitutional Reform and Modernization to the "New Deal"; and the period of the first year of the Republic to the Anti-Japanese War. In general, women's education of FuZhou started in the church girl schools after the Opium War, flourished in the Chinese girl schools during the "New Deal" of the Qing Dynasty and developed further before the Sino-Japanese War.Secondly, this thesis is to summarize some distinctive characteristics of the women's education of FuZhou through the comparison between the church girl schools and Chinese girl schools; the comparison between women's education of FuZhou and men's education of FuZhou; the comparison between women's education of FuZhou and women's education of China. So we can easily construct the idea that church women's education occupies an important position in the entire women's education system; the gap between men's education and women's education is narrowing; and women's education of FuZhou, which is once in the lead in China, falls behind to the mid-stream level in the Republic of China.Last but not at least, the impacts of the women's education on the women and society of FuZhou will be discussed. Women's education contributes to the abolition of women's feet-binding in FuZhou; promote the development of women's sports; raise a large number of women professionals and inspired a number of women actively participate in social movements.
