Current Status And Countermeasures Of Political Socialization For College Students Of Science And Engineering

Since the enlargement of college enrolments, the number of the college students of science and engineering is growing steadily. As a result, they have become an inconvenient force in our social and political life. Accordingly, the level of their political socialization is closely related to the improvement of their own political literacy, to the stability of our social politics, and to the formation and promotion of social and political culture. It also influences the operation of our socialist political system.This paper, taking college students of Science and Engineering in Western Hunan as a study case, deeply interpreters the essence of political socialization. That is,the rule class, for the purpose of keeping its regime, will spread political culture to social members to make them be political men or qualified political citizens and to encourage them to positively participate politics. The research shows the current status of political socialization for college students of science and engineering in west hunan, that is their resounding endorsement to our party and country, their positiveness to related policies, their concern with great political events and their zeal for political participation.The paper also draws an conclusion that the characteristics of college students of science and engineering in west hunan is that they are of strong sense of political faith, of good attitude towards politics and of growing enthusiasm for political participation. Common problems of students'political socialization and possible reasons of it are also sumed up in this paper. Obviously, the reasons are concerned with students'own political awareness and self-cognition, with the lag in college ideological and political education and with impact from campus and social environment.Based on a deep research and analysis, considering the reality in China, the author puts forward some countermeasures to optimize the political socialization for college students of science and engineering,that is deepening critical understanding of political socialization for students of science and engineering, enhancing the actual effect of the ideological and political education, strengthening political and cultural construction of college and carrying out social practice activities in a deep-going way.This paper promotes the development of empirical study on political socialization for college students from new perspective. But more work needs to be done in theory.
