Despite the fact that English teaching is a combination of oral and written, English teaching is currently conducted with over emphasis on the skills of reading and writing in a large number of secondary schools, which neglects of sufficient training on listening and speaking. Under the system of large class teaching, students' listening skill is usually trained with little catering for different learning levels, which undoubtedly leads to the low teaching efficiency. With the development of education and the introduction of new curriculum reforms, effective teaching models based on small class have become the trend of teaching reform.The thesis generally introduces the current situation of English listening teaching in secondary schools, then analyzes the application of small class listening teaching, and finally comes the exploration of small class listening teaching model, its application as well as the prospect of effective teaching strategies. The evaluation of teaching and learning in small-class listening practice is conducted to serve the purpose of exploring the effective listening teaching models.This article understands classes at home and abroad of English listening teaching theory foundation and development situation by literature studying, Through the investigation of such methods it analyses current large class of English listening practice problems. Based on the inner analysis of small-class teaching of English listening and effective teaching, the article analyses and abstracts some middle classes turn of English listening teaching pattern. Through an empirical research, detection of small change models under the junior middle school English listening teaching model is feasible, and then based on the empirical study results presented some teaching suggestions and opinions.Since the research on small-class listening teaching models is only at the initial stage, further research needs to be carried on as to the development of the effectiveness in listening training.
