There are numerous rivers in our country, which were exploited for a long time. While the industrialized tourism of river wasn't developed for long, in this period it appeared so many resorts that the rivers were the main attractions, which we called it river resort. With the development of the living standard of the people, the recreation functions of river were gradually being given more importance, and tourism research of river has attracted increasing attention. Because of the complexity of human geographic objects, systems analysis methods of geography were gradually favored with the development of system science, and which taking geographic objects as a vast complex system, analyzing the interaction among factors and the integral conditions of the system, and trying to interpret the changeable complex geographic system with a simplified systematic model. The evolvement was often explained from the perspective of complex system of resort in tourism geography. The research studied the evolutionary process and mechanism of the Lijiang river resort in Guilin with the dissipative structures theory of system science for this kind of resort research providing reference and example. This research consisted of six chapters.Chapter 1 introduction mainly expounded the background of selected title, study content and methods, and relevant theories.Chapter 2 the related researches and commentaries at home and abroad, mainly summed up the tourism research of river at home and abroad.Chapter 3 the characteristics of river resort system, explained the spatial and functional factors of river resort system, from the perspective of dissipative structure theory, it thought the Lijiang river resort as a dissipative structure system, which was supported by natural and socio-economic environment, and based on the attraction subsystem, the infrastructure subsystem, the service subsystem and the subsystem of support.Chapter 4 the evolutionary process of the Lijiang river resort in Guilin, analyzed the evolutionary process from the development characteristics of dissipative structure system, from Guilin tourism formally opened to the outside world in 1973 to February, 1980, the first Tourism Administration in Guilin was set up, when the Lijiang River tourism system in Guilin was in the embryonic state and each subsystem had not been formed. It was the formation stage from 1980 to 1993, when the subsystems were gradually improved, and the overall effects of tourism system have begun to appear. From the Lijiang river scenic spot administration was set up in September, 1993 to the beginning of the 21st century, the Lijiang river tourism system entered into development stage, subsystems became mature and there were significant interactions between each subsystem, the overall effect of the system was obvious. After 11th five-year plan, the Lijiang river tourism system in Guilin was being the better-improving statement, and all subsystems were coordinating developed, the overall effect of tourism system has been intensified, and the transform development of resort was impelled. Though four stages, its dissipative structure system undergone the first disorder development, low-level order, then to high-level, and reached the high-level at last. The four stages of the Lijiang river resort evolvement were in accordance with its exploration stage, participation stage, development stage and consolidate stage, which compared with Butler's resort lifecycle theory.Chapter 5 the evolutionary mechanism of the Lijiang river tourism system in Guilin, the essence of resort system evolvement was considered as a negative entropy input process of the dissipative structure, the nonlinear interaction between the elements of the system was the drive of evolution, which would be realized through the heter-organization system that based on the exterior environment and the central control of the government, and the self-organization system that based on the four kinds of nonlinear interactions of supply and demand, the man-land relationship, the coordination of region and the balance of different stakeholders. Chapter 6 conclusions and discussions, concluded this dissertation, and pointed out the points of innovation, deficiencies and aspects for further research.
