Yunnan Province, The Greater Mekong Sub-regional Structure Of Export Commodities Research

Under the atmosphere of sustainable development of regional economic integration, Yunnan province, located in Southwest China, act as a connection role between China and Southeast Asia, South Asia, increasingly strongly felt the tide of economic globalization and the impact of economic cooperation. Yunnan joined the Greater Mekong sub-regional in 1992, trade as an important part contained by the cooperation has attracted the research of many scholars. This paper seeks to study the export commodity structure between Yunnan Province and Greater Mekong sub-regional. Qualitative and quantitative methods has been use to give a systematical analysis export commodity structure between Yunnan Province and GMS regional. This paper trying to give certain references to the trade development of Yunnan province in the future. Previous studies on the structure of export commodities has mainly concentrated in China or ASEAN, while the GMS's commodity exports has been seldom focused, so the commodity exports structure between Yunnan Province and GMS may be as a perspective innovation of this article. This paper first reviews the related trade theory, specifically as follow: Comparative Advantage Theory of Adam Smith and David Ricardo; Michael Porter's theory of Competitive Advantage; Industry Structure Theory; Intra-industry Trade Theory. On the basis of the review of the related theories, further qualitative and quantitative analysis has been given. The study of the internal structure of export with the analysis of manufactured goods and primary products has exposed an overall export situation. Quantitative methods are mainly as follows:Product Concentration Index, Lawrence Index, Receipts Indices for Structural, Intra-industry Trade Index, Comparative Advantage index. Based on the analysis of these indicates, RCA indices within industrial products were analyzed to observe the exports inside the manufactured products. Finally, associated the structure of export commodities with Yunnan'mainstay industry, while using RCA index to conduct a study of mainstay industry and export-related industries, to reflect whether the exports to GMS act as a radiation role to the emerge of industry clusters. Based on the conclusion of empirical analysis of historical data, the author summedⅢ up the obstacles in export commodity structure between Yunnan Province and GMS as follows:1,The export commodity are too much focus on the resource-intensive exports and labor-intensive products;2, The export commodity product within industrial production have low level technology; 3, Dominant industries have not stimulate the growth of related industries exports; 4, Capacity production in Yunnan Province constraints commodity export from Yunnan Province d to the GMS; 5, The structure of export commodities within Yunnan is suffering to the impacts of external, environment; 6, Within Yunnan Province, the trade environment is not conducive to the optimizing of export commodities structure.The final part, drawing on the appropriate development route of the ldeveloped countries, combined with the specific situation of Yunnan Province, several advices has been given by the author to adjust the export commodity structure. The advices are:Strengthen the industrial cluster building, further develop the pillar industries to driven the related industry;, Complete policies and regulations, enhance the environment of trade facilitation.
