The Problem Of Income Gap Between Urban And Rural Residents In China And Countermeasures

With the opening and reform policy been carried out, China has taken on a new look. The gravity of the central work has shifted to the economic development,The living standard of our people's material and culture has started to have much enhancement. In this time our government took the countryside reform as the beginning of economic reform and it was helpful to the reduction of the city and countryside inhabitant income gap. In fact, the ratio of the city to countryside inhabitant income also dropped from 2.57 in 1978 to 1.86 in 1985. But with the unceasing deepening of marketability orientation reform, the economic restructuring center has started from the countryside to the city. The gap of city and countryside inhabitant's income expands gradually in our country. In fact how we should solve the question of the differential between the city and countryside inhabitant's income effectively has become an urgent question we must face when we speed up the step of the reform and opening policy and maintain the prosperity and stability that are necessary for economic development.This paper focuses on the factors of widening income gap,in which the separated urban and rural dual economic structure, the low overall efficiency of agriculture and urbanization is the main reason. Explore the direct cause of the urban-rural income gap in China is simply low income of rural residents. By increasing the income of rural residents to solve the problem of urban-rural income gap is essential. Therefore, to narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas, priority is to increase the income level of farmers. Measures to be implemented to improve the income of rural residents will be an effective solution to this problem.From what has been discussed above, to Increase farmers income and overcome disparities in urban and rural income levels, the main ways is to improve the overall efficiency of farmers, reform of rural economic structure and promote the industrialization of agriculture.Meanwhile, The Government should play a role in policy, giving support to the rural economy. With multi-pronged approach in all its aspects can we promote rural economic development, improve rural labor motivated. This brings to the key questions about phasing out the household-registration system to encourage more people to move to the city to push the process of rural urbanization and stepping up the construction of agricultural and rural infrastructure, all of this measures can improve the lives of rural residents.With both theoretical and practical methods are applied in research of this thesis, reaching a conclusion that we had made a great progress in our people's living standard, but because of fiscal solvency limited as well as other all sorts of economic system factors, the gap between rural and urban incomes has continued to widen. So we must pointedly take the corresponding measure, for overcoming disparities in urban and rural income levels gradually.
