The World Heritage, as the high standard appeal in tourism, attracts millions of visitors and there also arise various theme-related activities every year.Aiming at reducing the damages to the world cultural heritage caused by tourism activities, and providing theoretical guidance and suggestions for the sustainable development of world cultural heritage tourism, this paper makes comprehensive analysis of the current development of the tourism in the Great Wall, which is a representative of the world cultural heritage, demonstrates its status of the sustainable development as a tourist spot with the ecological footprint theory, and gives some advice on its later development on the basis of in-depth analysis of the research status quo in and abroad.First, this paper analyses the research background, contents and methods, the significance of the study, relevant domestic and foreign literature reviews; and summarizes the basic concepts and relevant theories, which provides the theory and method for the later research. It describes the development of the tourism in the Great Wall which is one of the world cultural heritages, summarizes the current problems of this tourism, and analyzes the corresponding reasons. Then, based on the theory of ecological footprint, it builds the evaluation system and model for the ecological footprint of tourism so as to discover the sustainable development of the tourism in the First Pass under Heaven, a representative tourism spot of the Great Wall. Finally, in accordance with the former analysis of the problems in the development of tourism and the assessment results of the sustainable development of tourism, this paper, puts forward proposals to improve the state of the sustainable development in the Great Wall from the aspects of the scenic area planning, the development of special tourism products, and the strengthened regulation of the government. Combining the methods of the literature research, quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, this paper does the comprehensive research on the sustainable development of the tourism in the Great Wall, which provides a new idea for the realization of the sustainable development of the World Heritage Tourism.
