It is knowledge economy society now, and human resource is the first resource in the enterprise development. Because of the influence of society and human resource itself, there is more and more employee turnover. As we know, the key employee is the main power to form and develop enterprise core competence. So how to retain them becomes the focus point.Based on the previous research, the main topic of this paper is how to recognize and retain key employees. It analyzes the definition and characteristics of key employee, and the importance of retaining them as well as the problems in the retaining management. Finally, it puts forward the criterion for distinguishing in order to make clear the target of retaining management. This article includes six parts:The first part, pointing out research question and research mentality is on the basis of the previous research.The second part, distinguishing the key employee is the key part. Through studying at retaining management, it is found that the key employees are not recognized in enterprises. Therefore, it is far from meeting their needs and arousing their biggest enthusiasm. So it lays emphasis on the concept and characteristics of key employees, and makes up the criterion for distinguishing, including four standards: the determination of important post, the determination of essential skill, the human resource value calculation and the enterprise culture approval. How to determine the key target is the first step of reserving management. At the same time, it takes an enterprise as an example to distinguish the key employee.The third part, it elaborates the loss in many aspects in enterprises and significance of controlling key employee turnover in order to draw enterprises' attention.
