Shanxi banks, one of commercial economy's products, ever made a great achievement in China's history. They have a lot of branches in many cities all over China, including cities in Guangdong Province. To a certain extent, branches here have their typical characters because of Guangdong economy's specialization in China's modern history. From macro and micro perspectives, applying modern financial theory, organization theory, economic theory and the social theory, this paper mainly study the branch banks in Guangdong and probe into the evolution of Shanxi branch banks, their impaction to Guangdong local economy and the interaction between them and Guangdong government.Firstly, from the macro and micro perspectives, the paper studies Shangxi banks' coming out, why they'd like to open their branches in Guangdong. Take the interaction between Shanxi branch banks and financial organizations in Guangdong as a clue, the paper briefly reviews their formidable braving out, rapid development and also rapid decline in nearly 100 years. It also analyses the cause of these branch banks' development and decline, which was the combined effect of many inevitable internal and external factors. The paper's focus is the role that Shanxi branch banks played in modern Guangdong financial history. After winning their competition with local financial organizations, Shanxi branch banks set up many operations aiming at Guangdong Customs and government. Because of these operations, the relationship between them and Guangdong government and Customs became closer and closer. In the end, the paper analyses how they provided their economic assistance to Guangdong government so that it could complete the distribution of the court mandate on time through the description of the interaction between these branches and Guangdong government in modem history. At the same time, it analyses how Guangdong government gave its political security to these branch banks and help them develop in China modern history, even monopoly in some areas.
