After opening its doors to the international business scene, a growing number of foreign firms are doing business in China, including, whose economic growth is partially attributed to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). FDI has brought capital, advanced technology, and management experience to a building Jiangsu economy. In addition, FDI has optimized the industrial structure, expanded employment, and promoted foreign trade in the Province. But it has brought some negative effects to Jiangsu as well, including that of the sustainable development of its economy. How to properly apply FDI towards the sustainable development of the economy in order that its positive effects are primarily incurred is becoming increasingly important as more foreign firms begin doing business in Jiangsu. The following analyzes the sustainability of Jiangsu's economy, in particular how FDI influences the expansion of employment and foreign trade. Empirical evidence is presented regarding the impact of FDI inflows on GDP growth, transfer technology, as well as how secondary industries are affected. In addition, it is recommended how the policies regarding the utilization of foreign capital might be adjusted to further promote the sustainable development of Jiangsu's economy on the new international business scene.
