The Research On Jiangsu Open Economy’s Sustainable Development Level

Open economy has made a significant contribution on the rapid economic development ofJiangsu, but with the changes in the world economic environment, the extensive open economydevelopment pattern can’t be sustained. It is imperative to enhance the level of the open economy’ssustainable development level in Jiangsu Province.This thesis applies the theory of sustainable development to the open economy, and elaboratesthe connotation of the open economy’s sustainable development from three aspects including the openeconomic system sustainability, functional sustainability and environmental sustainability. Based onthe connotation, and combined with the stage of China’s economic development level andcharacteristics, following the principle of evaluating index system, the evaluation index system ofopen economy’s sustainable development level has been established. This index system includes3first grade indicators,8second grade indicators and36three grade indicators.Using the improved entropy method, Jiangsu open economy sustainable development level hasbeen measured from2004to2010, and the thirteen cities in Jiangsu and seven provinces’ openeconomy’s sustainable development level have been measured in2010, the empirical results show that:(1) Jiangsu open economy’s sustainable development level has been rising all the time, openeconomic system sustainability is rising, the functional sustainability index and the environmentalsustainability index are showing a shift development trend.(2) The thirteen cities’ open economy’ssustainable development level from high to low is Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Nanjing, Nantong,Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Taizhou, Lianyungang, Yancheng, Xuzhou, Huai’an and Suqian. There are twomain questions, the obvious regional difference among the thirteen cities’ open economy’s sustainabledevelopment level and it is not harmonious between the open economy development and environment.(3) The seven provinces’ open economy’s sustainable development level from high to low is Shanghai,Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Shandong. Economic and social benefits ofJiangsu’s open economic are lower. Environmental carrying capacity is lower, and environmentalsustainability is general.Based on the research findings, the suggestions to enhance the promotion of Jiangsu openeconomy’s sustainable development level has been put forward finally.
