Along with the economic globalization and financial internationalization push forward continuously, and the financial system reform of our country goes deep into continuously, our country banking not only faces vehemence of local competition, but also the foreign capital banks pass various situations to rob the stand of our country's market quickly and launch the fierce competition with local commercial banks. If each commercial bank of our country can't improve respective competitive ability and the performance of the management as soon as possible, its normal existence and good development will be faced a lot of problems, and some serious problems that can impact the financial stability and even overall economic development may appear. Therefore, it undoubtedly has sizeable academic and practical value that to carry on objective, overall analysis and appraisal to the present performance state of the commercial banks in our country and make the effective tactics that can promote their competition ability.The ownership structure is an important factor to judge whether the banking system in a country is good or not. The problem about the relativity between the ownership structure and the performance of commercial banks has been always heated discussed in financial field form which the scholars are attempting to find the way to construct an ownership structure so as to improve the performance of commercial banks. The intent of this paper is just to disclose the relationship between the ownership structure and the performance of banks.This paper selects banks listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchange during the period 2000 through 2006, and test effects of the ownership structure on bank performance. On the basis of the general theory about corporate ownership structure in chapter 2, the content in chapter 3 and 4 is part and parcel in thesis. The content in chapter 3 describes the characteristics of the ownership structure of commercial banks in China in three aspects including ownership structure, degree of concentration and negotiability structure. The content in chapter 4, use the factor analysis to appreciate the index of performance, having the index integrated with the non- ownership structure elements, the paper processes the regressive analysis using the related data. The conclusions could be drawn: (1) In view of ownership concentration, the proportions of the largest shareholder and the first five shareholders have reversed U with banks' performance respectively. And if total assets scale and financial leverage are taken into account, two proportions will have negative effects on banks' performance; (2) In view of structure of the capital stock, the banks' performance have un-obvious relationship between government owned shock ,and will be better along with the rise of corporate shares and descends with the liquid shares.According to the academic and demonstration analysis above, some suggestions are brought forward to optimize the ownership structure of the banks in China as below: the first one is to optimize the ownership concentration, and form a relative holding of the shareholder structure; the second one is to reform the management system of state-owned financial assets, the third one is cultivate investment corporations; the forth one is to issue inside stocks; the fifth one is to cultivate institutional investors; the sixth one is dealing with the problem of stock market separation.The characteristics of this paper:(1) This paper based on our country's practical situation, analyzes the relationship between the bank performance and the ownership structure, and discusses the optimizing ownership structure to raise the bank performance. (2) Using factor analysis, analysis the four indicators of the banks' performance: profit, mobility, security and development capacity, obtain a Composite Index to describe the bank performance.
