Economic hotel catches more and more tourists' eyes in the 21st century, and the economic chain hotel grows fast. Meanwhile, the market competition becomes fiercer. Only pays attention to the cultivation and maintenance of core competence, the economic chain hotel could obtain the competitive advantage and development continually. However, the core competence theory is still imperfect and the strict scientific system has not been formed so far, and it waits for further research on the application in hotel management. In view of this, the author researches on the cultivation and maintenance of economic chain hotel's core competence, and puts forward the proposals and counterrneasures unified the operation situation of economic chain hotel in China. It is hoped that this research is helpful to further health development of the economic hotel.Many methods are used in this research, such as combining theory with practice, field surveys, interviews, data analyses and so on. The using of interviews and spot inspection gained a large number of materials for the research, and makes the research scientific.Firstly, the background and theoretical principle of economic chain hotel's core competence are introduced. Based on this, the fundamental elements and influencing factors of economic chain hotel's core competence are analyzed.Secondly, system of economy chain hotel's core competence is established, and the way to cultivation and maintenance is proposed. Then, the author takes "Home Inn" as a case, whose core competence is analysis. Finally, countermeasures and suggestions to cultivate and promote economic chain hotel's core competence are proposed unifying the situation of the economic hotel's core competence in China.This paper draws the main conclusions as follows:(1)The fundamental elements and influencing factors of economy chain hotel's core competence.The fundamental elements system includes five kinds of abilities: the technology, the management, the marketing, the culture and the network. Many factors influence the core competence such as the knowledge, the culture, the technology, the resource and so on. According to these, there should be three levels: the core, the performance and the strut.(2)Cultivation and maintenance of economic chain hotel's core competence.There are two ways to cultivate it, one of these named interior method, which includes internal accumulation and internal innovation, another named exterior method, which includes M&A (Merger and Acquisition) and strategic alliance. Ways to maintenance it include self-protecting and hotel's proactive protecting.(3)The characteristics of "Home Inn" hotel's core competence."Home Inn" hotel's core competence is constituted by technical ability, marketing ability, management ability, cultural ability, networking capability and so on. Competing advantage brought embodies in three aspects mainly: the high economic benefits, the fast expansion speed and the high customer satisfaction degree.(4)The countermeasures and suggestions to cultivate and promote economic chain hotel's core competence in China.Eight aspects should be concerned: strategic management, innovation management, organization management, human resource management, marketing management, enterprise culture management, service management as well as linkage network.This research has great significance.In theoretically, it takes economic chain hotel's core competence as the object, which is the deepness and application of traditional hotel management theory and core competence theory. This research could provide the theory model for further research.In practically, the research on the fundamental elements structure and influencing factors, and the way to cultivate and maintain core competence are effective tools for hotel's operator and manager. The analysis on the core competence of "Home Inn" is helpful to recognize its superiorities and weaknesses, and is also a reference for other economic chain hotels. The countermeasures and suggestions to cultivation and promote economy chain hotel's core competence is helpful to the enhancing and continue development of economy chain hotel in China.
