Kazakh Women In Traditional Costumes, Color Studies

This paper takes Kazakh women's traditional dress color as the object of study. According to literature and fieldwork material, with the symbolic theory, it probes into the cultural meaning, mainly including the dress style and its color. Furthermore, it discusses the significance of this symbolic system in cultural interpretation of Kazakh nationality.The body part consists of forward, three chapters and the conclusion.The forward mainly introduces the study background, the current research situation of this issue and research methods this paper used.Chapter one gives the general picture of Kazakh women's traditional dress style and its color.Chapter two introduces the color of Kazakh women's traditional dress. White, red, blue and green are the favorite colors of Kazakh women. This chapter analyses how this idea comes out and how it changes with times in order to explore the cultural and symbolic meaning of the color. The white is not only symbol of white swan totem and symbol of saint, but also the proof for Kazak ancestor believing Shamanism and Zoroastrianism, the red is the symbol of sun and the sunshine, the blue is the symbol of god in heaven, the green is the symbol of life and spring, the black is the symbol of the great or grief, the yellow is the depressed color or nonlife, is hardly used for Kazakh tradition.Chapter three introduces the character of color of Kazakh women's dress, and explored the culture function in it.The conclusion part makes a summary and stress that the color of Kazakh women's dress is a symbolic system implied various meanings and play an important role when we try to interpret Kazakh nationality's culture.In a word, this paper is the synthetical study of color of Kazakh women's traditional dress. It will help us have the concept of viewing the situation as a whole. On the angle of cultural interpretation, it will help us better understand the symbolic system of color of Kazakh women's dress and their unique cultural significance.
