In the past ten years development, Chenzhou Tobacco Company has reached hilarious achievement in improving its operational ability due to its fearless reformation and aggressive ambition, thus builting a sound basis for its future development. The separation of tobacco manufacturing and sales in 2003 initiated the reformation of tobacco industry. At this historical turn, being part of Chinese tobacco industry, Chenzhou Tobacco Company is facing the urgent problems of how to understand the trends of global and China's tobacco industry, how to assess its strengths and weaknesses and how to set its long term goals and take strategic actions to gain competitive advantage. The reality that the company is affronted determines that it is imperial and urgent to employ strategic management.This article tries to integrate the strategic management theories learned from my MBA courses and the management practices to analyze the actual business environment, the internal resources and abilities to boost the company's further development and compete after the abrogation of Tobacco Monopoly Act. I hope that this article would be of some value for other tobacco companies.However, for the time being, tobacco monopoly and China Tobacco Monopoly put many limitations on Chenzhou Tobacco Company. It is difficult to consider Chenzhou Tobacco Company as a company that operates under the pure market conditions and make strategic choices accordingly. Furthennore, the future regulatory policies are not clear.Therefore, the direction and scope of this article is decided by such conditions.
