Because of the occurrence of financial crises, social harmony and development, the commercial banks are asked to increase their social responsibilities. Commercial banks consciously fulfill their social responsibilities to achieve their own sustainable development and gain competitive advantage.In this paper, the social responsibility of commercial banks are divided into:economic responsibility, legal responsibility, moral responsibility and the responsibility for sustainable development. By the social responsibility reports by China's major commercial banks and some foreign commercial banks in 2008, this paper analyzes the status quo that China's commercial banks fulfill their social responsibility. This paper also makes responses and suggestions for China's commercial banks to better fulfill their social responsibility.The point of view of this paper is:Policy of restraint and supervision of public opinion make China's commercial banks to fulfill their social responsibilities. China's commercial banks do not feel fulfilling its social responsibility. They must be aware of the importance of fulfilling their social responsibilities. At the same time, they will consciously fulfill their social responsibilities.
