With the development of the urbanization, more and more MinZu peddlers move into big cities like Beijing to find a job or do some business. However, due to their special growth environment and their unique culture and custom, the peddlers who are from the remote MinZu regions are inevitably encountering cultural barriers, and facing a series of urban adaptation problems, including language using problem, different eating habits, different ways of thinking and behaviors, various customs, religions, urban management problems and so on. Compared to the general moving workers, the challenge for these peddlers was even more serious. If these MinZu peddlers can't adjust themselves to the urban life, it would hard for them to get themselves involved in the city, which would result in social conflicts and endanger the traditional harmonious ethnic relations. Therefore, studying the way of urban adaptation of the peddlers of MinZu group is not only related with their livelihood and development, but also concerns about the unity and prosperity of the future ethnic relation. What's more, although we have studied moving workers 'urban adaptation problems from the view of Sociology and Management in recent years, but we still pay little attention to the urban adaptation problems of peddlers of Miao who have their special occupations and the study of the emerging minority inhabited community. Thus, with the increasingly complex of the present urban ethnic relation, the relevant research about the situation of urban adjustment of peddlers from minority regions will enrich and broaden the previous Sociology and Ethnology study. Therefore, this research has great social and academic value. This article focused on the peddlers of Miao at Beijing PanJiaYuan Flea Market, using field observations and depth interviews methods comprehensively to collect facts and dates, and integrated with sociological and ethnological theories to have a qualitative study about urban adaptation of peddlers of Miao.Chapter I is the preface, which mainly introduce the background and the significance of this research, the general situation of urban adaptation of floating population and moving peddlers of minorities, and review the relevant theories, the related investigational methods, and the definition of the key words and basic concepts. In Chapter II, I described the basic situation of peddlers of Miao at PanJiaYuan Flea Market and some typical cases, the characteristics of the group, their adaptation of the daily life and the state of their adaptation of the urban public services. In chapter III, I summarized the means of making a life of peddlers of Miao, their experiences of market operation and their special business models,as competition gets tougher and market gets more challenging, they have formed the corresponding strategies to sell its products, which mainly include the innovation and creation of new products, diversification, reduce the costs of products and struggle to get a variety of supports from members in other group, make use of special ethnic culture and avoid to operate business in an off-season and etc.In Chapter IV, I focused on the social interaction of the peddlers of Miao, which involved in their association within the members in the same MinZu and the interaction with tourists and customers at home and abroad, the relation with the permanent residents in the city and the direction from the urban management officers. Then we analyzed the troubles and the conflicts which they had encountered in the city, and their response and ways of solving contradiction. In Chapter V, by discussing the aspect of their impression of Beijing, feeling and emotion, relaxation and entertainment, festivals and religious belief, values and sense of belonging, I try to explore the psychological and spiritual ideology of peddlers of Miao in Beijing and learned that by the means of changing their religious belief and the internalization of the present concepts of commercial values, they try to make adaptation with the urban life.Chapter VI is the conclusion part. I summarized the life condition of peddlers of Miao who lived in the minority inhabited community of Beijing, and utilize their social networks and their traditional minority products to adapt to the city life and realize the route of moving from rural minority region to the metropolis and changing their roles from being a farmer to a peddler. Afterwards, We analyzed the ethnicity of Miao both have positive and negative effects on their adaptation of urban life.In the end, under the circumstance of minorities'urbanization, we discussed the ethnic relation and gave some advise and suggestions to the national work of urban construction.I sincerely hope that this empirical research can not only provide some useful experience for the urban adaptation of those floating MinZu group who move and work in the city, but also gives some effective suggestions to the future development and regulation of MinZu work of Beijing, aiming to achieve a healthy and harmonious city ethnic relations.
