Research On Urban-rural Relations In The New Era

Since the reform and opening up, the institutional and structural transformation hasbeen the two main lines of China’s economic development. In the field of regionaleconomics, it mainly expressed as the change of urban-rural relations. At first, theurban-rural relations expressed as “the rural area provide resources for the development ofurban area”, later their relations turns to “urban area feed the rural area”, and now itmanifest as “the integrated development of urban and rural”. As the complex developmenthistory, the “urban and rural relations has experienced many Fundamental changes.Because of this special course of development, the gap between rural and urban areascontinues to be larger and larger, and this lead to the abnormal development of China’surbanization and has bring about some social contradictions. In this context, how to ensurethe coordination of the development of urban and rural areas, and how to narrow the gapbetween them and how to promote the interaction between them has became the primaryproblem that faced our government.As a the rapid developed city on the eastern coast of China， Suzhou became the onlyexperiment city of Jiangsu Province that lead the “urban–rural integration”reform in2008. After three years, the urban-rural integration of Suzhou has achieved initial success,the relationship between urban and rural areas has shown some new features in this newera.Based on the logic of “historical experience-realistic response-the futureprediction”, this article analyzed the interaction between urban and rural areas, revealed theintrinsic conditions of the urban-rural integration, and explored the necessary measures toachieve the goal of the urban and rural integration. This article can be divided into fourparts: the first part focused on the evolvement history of the relations between urban and rural areas in different periods, summed up the characteristics of relationship in differentstages, and analyzed the historical reasons that lead to current situation of urban-ruralrelations; the second part analyzed the features of the urban-rural relations in the new era,and defined the connotation of urban-rural relations in the new period; the third part tookSuzhou as a example, combined with the connotation of the definition of urban-ruralrelations, analyzed the status of the urban-rural relations in Suzhou and its problems indetail; the Fourth part gave some recommendations to promote the harmoniousdevelopment of urban and rural areas.
