Time-effect study is the one that studies the effect of time factor onacupuncture: After acupuncturing, the effect of acupuncture shows a graduallychanging course. Firstly there is a long or short latent period, and then theeffect begins arising and maintaining for some time on the high level, lastlyit return to the prevenient level. Studying the time-effect relationship ofacupuncture has an important role in the objective assessment of curative effectand best choice of time interval and period of treatment.A large number of reportsshow that acupuncture has a good effect on protecting gastric mucosa, but fewreports are about time-effect relationship of acupuncture in 24 hours. Knownfrom the current documents those studies are about time-effect relationship ofacupuncture. The time observed is limited to some days or hours, while thedifferent time points in 24 hours are rarely included. SO the pilot study isimportant. The experiment regards rats submitted to alcohol-induced gastric mucosalinjury as the research subjects. 126 Wister Rats were randomly divided into 14groups: 7 model control (MC) groups and 7 electro-acupuncture (EA) groups. At0h, 0.5h, 1h, 3h, 6h, 12h, 24h after EA Zusanli, gastric SOD, MDA, NOS and iNOSwere observed and the curves of time-effect relation were described. The purposeis to study the time-effect relation and the possible mechanism of EA protectinggastric mucosa. The experimental results showed:1 Time-effect change exists: Compared with the curves of SOD, MDA, NOS and iNOSin MC group, those curves in EA group fluctuated differently. The curves of SODand MDA fluctuated distinctly, but the curves of NOS and iNOS fluctuatedindistinctly.2 The curves of SOD and MDA in MC group fluctuated synchronously. That meansSOD and MDA have a cooperating effect on protecting gastric mucosa.3 The curve charts of SOD and MDA showed: At 3h after EA, the curve of SODascended and the one of MDA descended. The mechanism of EA protecting gastricmucosa may be to increase the amount of the impairing factor MDA and decreasethe amount of the protecting factor, then reach the aim of "assisting Zhengand dispelling Xie".4 The effects of acupuncture on NOS and iNOS are not obvious, but compared withthe curve of NOS in MC group, the trend of NOS curve in EA group showed acupuncturecan strengthen NOS at 0h after EA. It is suggested that acupuncture may increasethe amount of NOS instantly and further study about it is needed. In conclusion, our present study demonstrates there are some time-effectchange laws of gastric SOD, MDA, NOS and iNOS by EA in rats submitted to gastricmucosal injury. Different index will have different change, and the best changingtime is also different. It is to say that time factor has an important role inthe curative effect of acupuncture, and studying the time-effect relationshipof acupuncture is valuable.
