Known from the recent documents, there are some time-effect change laws afterEA. The effect of acupuncture will disappear over certain time limit. In orderto accumulate and consolidate the effect more studies should be carried. A largenumber of clinical and experimental reports show acupuncture and moxibustion havea good effect on protecting gastric mucosa, but few reports are about time-effectof acupuncture. In fact, to explore the time factor and protecting mechanism ofacupuncture, it is significant to strengthen the research of the dynamic changeafter EA, which can advance the process of the clinical and experimental studiesand promote the standardization of acupuncture and moxibustion finally. The experiment regards rats submitted to alcohol-induced gastric mucosalinjury as the research subjects. Rats were randomly divided into groups: modelcontrol (MC) groups and electro-acupuncture (EA) groups. At 0h, 0.5h, 1h, 3h,6h, 12h, 24h after EA Zusanli, SOD, MDA, NOS and ET in the blood were observedand the curves of time-effect relation were described. The purpose is to studythe time-effect relation and the possible mechanism of EA protecting gastricmucosa. The experimental results showed:1 Time-effect change after EA may exist. Within 24h after EA, the curve of SOD in MC group fluctuated indistinctly( comparing MC group-0 with other MC groups, P>0.05), but the curve of SOD inEA group had 3 peak value (comparing EA group-0 with EA group-3,6,24, P<0.05).The curve of MDA in MC group fluctuated mildly and the pink value time "2h"'was later (comparing MC group-0 with MC group-12, P<0.05), but the pink valuetime "3h" of MDA in EA group was earlier (comparing EA group-0 with EA group-3,P<0.01). The NOS and ET curves of EA were very steady with the changing time, while the curves of MC were fluctuant.2 EA may induce the steady state by self-regulation of body. Linking the results of SOD and MDA of EA group: Within 3h after EA the curveof MDA obviously ascended, while the curve of SOD indistinctly fluctuated. Butat 12h after EA the curves of SOD and MDA obviously descended. This show: EA maytemporarily increase the amount of the impairing factor MDA, and then theprotective factor SOD counteracts the effect of MDA. In course ofinter-counteract the amount of both MDA and SOD decreased in the unbalance ofsynthesization and consumption. It is suggested that the one possible mechanismof EA protecting gastric mucosa is to induce the steady state of retardingoxidation by self-regulation of body, and SOD and MDA may have important roles. Linking the results of NOS and ET EA group: The NOS and ET curves of EA werevery steady with the time changing, while the curves of MC were fluctuant. Thisshow: within 24h after EA NOS which is a key enzyme responsible for NO, hassteadily synthesized certain amount of the protective factor NO; similarly, theimpairing factor ET has been synthesized in certain amount. In course ofinter-counteraction of NO and ET, the body has been in a good balance to regulatevasodilatation. It is suggested that the one possible mechanism of EA protectinggastric mucosa is to induce the steady state of vasodilatation by self-regulationof body, and NOS and ET may play important roles. In conclusion, our present study demonstrates that there is some time-effectchange law by EA in rats submitted to gastric mucosal injury. Compared with thenearly static curves of NOS and ET in the rats' blood, the dynamic curves ofSOD and MDA in the rats' blood are more likely to reflect the time-effect changeafter acupuncture. The one possible mechanism of EA protecting gastric mucosais to induce the steady state by self-regulation of body.
