This paper presents the HPLC fingerprints of the crude material and its injection prepared from Ixeris sonchifolia (Bge.) Hance. On the methodology, the studies on precision, reproduction and stability were done. The relative retention time , the relative area of the main co-peak adjusted and RSD all meet the requirements for SDA's technical requlations on the injection of TCM. Furthermore ,the fingerprints of them showed an excellent correlation.Through the UV scanning on the main co-peaks in the fingerprint, two of them —the sesquiterpenoids were found.Lactone A and B were separated from I. sonchifolia with porous resin(D101),silica gel and Semiprep HPLC with the help of analytic HPLC. MS results shows that they have the difference of 2 on their mass weight, and can expected that they have very close relation on their biosynthetic origin. The HPLC quantitative method of lactone A and B was established. All these were basic and useful for the study of theirbiosynthesis.
